CMM students also have their Lipdub!

Last week my class tried something new : a Libdub. See on Charles' Bezard Blog "As our english course with Bob Spaulding is nearly finished, we have decided to make a final video to conclude this great experience. And as I did for the J-E of the Celsa, I have filmed the CMM students doing a Lipdub, on the USA-AFRICA artists’ “we are the world” famous song”." Thank to his talent we had a funny result. :-) Have a look.

Mediastorm

I just discovered on Oreilly blog this video sharing site Mediastorm with for once a real editorial aspect. The video are professionnal qualities, smarts and touch various subjects. There is traditionnal video and also audio-picture wich is a new and beautiful creative activity.
Take 10min and have a look on mediastorm.org

The Internet in professionnal life

In my job, the Internet will certainly be THE major tool of communication. More and more people use it for mailing, for research, and now also to call. As it's almost free and the online documentation is every day more complete that the one before, it's not gonna change. Especially for people working in communication as I do. Celsa.fr
So I like it and I will have to learn how to take the most of opportunities from the web.

I see one problem anyway : some studies have proved that an abusive utilisation of emails is counter-productive. People have a trend to send email for insignificants purpose, even in job's context. And the people who receive it have to spend a lot of time to read it all, make some classification and respond.
So I will not forget to talk directly to people, sometimes it’s more efficient than e-communication... Internet is powerfull, but traditionnal meeting is not dead, maybe e-meeting and e-conference is the future.

My online video curriculum vitae

As announced int the video here is my Linkedin CV

The use of e-communication in finding and doing a job

Last year to find an internship I spend hours on the Internet.
*First step: having model of CV on the Internet to improve my own. That was delicate…
*Second step: to look for vacant intern situation. There are hundreds of specialized web sites. My favourite one was profil-culture.com, I also check web sites of a lot of media (Canal + , TF1, Lemonde.fr, MK2…)
* Third step: Sending dozens of application by email, each of it with an adapted motivation letter for the job and firm.
* Fourth step: Make web research to prepare each interview.

This year I will have the same process. The Internet is my main tool both for documentation on firm, an communication with recruiter.
Maybe I could make more research on the market, because I’m looking for a little start-up or something like that, in London or Australia. So I will have to find this little firm…

Reading and correction test

Correct the text below, paying special attention to words or phrases that are mistakes commonly made in translating from French to English. Cross out the mistakes and write in the correct English above the word or words.

Currently, I work in a company that has 65 salaries. It is located at Paris at the 15th district in the street called Rue Maubert. Its reason is to commercialize children’s softwares.

It receives a subvention from the state to hire young interns. That is how I received my position which is called commercial. In the beginning, my job title was responsible for marketing, but I changed my job.

We sell a range of products with the brand Youngsoft. We have many expenses associated with marketing. The advertising in the subway is one of the most expensive. Our PR department also has a very large budget. We realize our own advertising with our redaction staff, and we do our own edition of users’ manuals.

Our quarterly results for this year have been all very positive. Our market is very interesting right now, and that is why we earn funds.

We want to commercialize our products in Tahiti because we think islander customers would be interested in buying them.

In resume, because of our positive deontology and interesting market niche, we will have a rosy future.

Cybercrime

If the Internet is a new public space, with the place for debates (the agora made of blogs and forums), business (e-commerce), there is also place for crime in the cyberspace.

Cybercrime is criminal activity involving an information technology infrastructure, including illegal access (unauthorized access), illegal interception (by technical means of non-public transmissions of computer data to, from or within a computer system), data interference (unauthorized damaging, deletion, deterioration, alteration or suppression of computer data), systems interference (interfering with the functioning of a computer system by inputting, transmitting, damaging, deleting, deteriorating, altering or suppressing computer data), misuse of devices, forgery (ID theft), and electronic fraud. [cf : wikipedia]

Cybercrime can come frome individuals or States agencies. One of the most recent and large exemple was the attack from China against Tibetan websites. Matrix is also an exemple of cybercrime. Isnt'Neo persecuted ? ;)

About that, here is an excellent post from another CMM student, Zélie Berger.

Open Sources VS Commercial

E-culture is made of various components : free-culture, love of technologies and the attraction that cames with a fresh market.
The Open source software are the outcome of the free-culture. Linus was the first famous one, challenging the monopole of Windows. Then came the peer-to-peer softwares, which were destinated to be a popular succes. Open office and Mozilla came later, and offered a credible alternative to expensives or unsatisfactory softwares.

The advantages are numerous : free, more reactive, good quality, tool to improve the general ability of the population on computering.
I see only one weakness : a hacker could do many damages via an open sources softwares.

Obama mobilise via new-technologies

The final race of the American Presidential election is starting theses days. The end will remain unknown to the last day. A chance of change in style and policy, or an continuation of the old reneganism...

Two things are already certain, two majors changes :
-the American society is much more seeking for new impulse than ever since JFK. The two designed challengers Obama and Mac Cain were two marginal outsiders in their party, even if popular among the overall population.
-the energie came from Obama which has a new way of managing the mobilisation of partizans for him, using new technologies.
With mybarackobama.com, he gave the opportunity to supporters to appropriate the campaign through the Internet, which leads to a better implication and participation on the grounds. It's an old tradition in the US that supporters came in the houses of theirs neighbourgs to try to convince them to vote for their candidate, before the election day, and to bring them to the election office the election day. Obama is modernizing this American way of doing politics on the ground to new generation.

The stakes are high: the better ground game can be worth 2-3% on Election Day, says veteran strategist Joe Trippi. That means that in a close race, the field organization could make the difference.

I think this trend is good overall. The good thinks is that it helps fighting against the depolitization of new-generation, and the discussion that came with this organisation is something that feeds democracy.
The bad aspect is that for some supporters it is closer to being fan of a pop-star thant fighting for political ideas. But whatever the way of mobilisation, this already is a danger.

If that trends would come to France for ideas I support like green revolution, I would certainly like to be part of it.

LAST WEEK

Last week-end I went to the WEI, an annuel event of the CELSA's Student Union : Pop'Com, as one of the organisators, I am co-manager of the Animation.

The main goal of this week-end is to create a feisty opportunity for the new student of the school to meet, doing parties and team games.
This was a great succes, both by the number of participants and the general atmosphere. We never have so much people (130), and the sun was here to help us.

Several people thanks us for that organisation, which is still nice to hear. :)

On a more personnal level, I meet a charming girl named Clémentine...

Under, the teaser of the WEI, a main element of the promotion campaign created by PAVO Prod...

The RSS

I have to write about something that I don't use. It won't be easy but I will do my best.

The RSS are agregator of upgrades on the Internet. This could be textes, videos, prices, photos, podcasts or anythings. This requires a minimum of computering knowledge.
First you need to suscribes to the RSS you are interested in.
Second, you just use it !

Pro-social means democracy

What's democracy if not a living process ? This is an ideal, never reach, wich always need people to stand up for it.
This is the process of constant talking, debats and contradictions. This is the right and the possibility for everyone to talk on every subject.
This suppose an equal acces to a free and true information for every citizen.

The Internet can be usefull for it. It's still an space of freedom. This freedom can be used in order to plan terrorists attacks, as does many Al-Qaeda members, and can also been used to participate to improve your society as does the democrats...

So to conclude, I would like to give you some websites wich represent the good use of the liberty of speech on the Internet according to me.

ASI : the Internet version of an old french TV show on the analysis of the mediasphere.
Madmundo : a web 2.0 for video on the effects of globalisation

I have more in my mozilla links, not accessible now. I should use del.ic.ious ...

What about the P2P ?

Limewire, one of the best peer to peer (P2P) software is an exciting tool for me.

I download hundreds of songs, dozens of movies or tv shows for free.

Contradictorily I don’t care too much about the long term effect of pirating content on the Internet. It’s my only option to see as much video or music I want, it gave me the opportunity to improve my media culture, to share it with friends. I know it’s really bad for the media economy, but I thinks this is to the big groups to finds new ways to make there money. On that subject, I am in favour of a global licence for the internet, like the french “redevance”.

What’s more, in France today, from the last law passed on the national assembly, the legislation is so complex about it that you could argue that it’s not illegal, if someone put you on a trial. Anyway, I'd rather avoid it...

My favorite web-tool to improve my english : Itunes

With Itunes you can podcast any radio or web-radio or tv show you want, in many languages. So I listen the BBC radio news politics very often.

It’s free, automatic if you made the sets up, easy to use, you can take the downloaded podcasts on any mp3 player. In my opinion this is an excellent and democratic way to improve your English with the Internet.

You can also listen to English shows in streaming directly on various web sites : BBC Iplayer, Americanradiolinks...

This is specially usefull for those with an audio memory as me !
